The Nigerian National PetroleumCorporation (NNPC) has announced that about 35 expressions of interest for the establishment of modular refineries had been declared and that the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) had issued licenses to 13 of them.

Group Managing Director of the NNPC said the measures is part of the corporation’s commitment to actualizing the December 2019 target set by the Federal Government to end the importation of petroleum products into the country.

The modular refineries, according to Baru, will stop the illegal refining of crude and also create employment and wealth among residents of the Niger Delta.

He further explained that in terms of refining and production of local petroleum products, the ongoing arrangement with the original builders of the refineries will return them to at least 90 percent capacity utilization before the 2019 deadline.

Baru noted that the long cherished dream of transforming Nigeria from a net exporter of crude oil to a net exporter of petroleum products would in the months ahead transform into a reality.

He stated that the tendering exercises for companies interested in the rehabilitation programmes of the nation’s four refineries using a contractor-financing model had been completed and successful adding that the companies for the different projects would soon be announced.

Recall that the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu had recently at the commissioning of Petrolex’s mega oil city in Ibefun Ogun- State assured Nigerians of the Government determination to end the importation of refined oil into the country by 2019.
These Are the 7 Types of Love and how we can ignore the most available and potentially fulfilling types.

Everyone seems to be hankering after romantic love, but few of us realize that far from being timeless and universal, romantic love is in fact a modern construct, one that emerged in tandem with the novel. In Madame Bovary (1856), itself a novel, Gustave Flaubert tells us that Emma Bovary only found out about romantic love through ‘the refuse of old lending libraries’. These books, he wrote:

...were all about love and lovers, damsels in distress swooning in lonely lodges, postillions slaughtered all along the road, horses ridden to death on every page, gloomy forests, troubles of the heart, vows, sobs, tears, kisses, rowing-boats in the moonlight, nightingales in the grove, gentlemen brave as lions and gentle as lambs, too virtuous to be true, invariably well-dressed, and weeping like fountains.

But there are many other ways to love, not all of which are consistent or consonant with romantic love. By preoccupying ourselves with romantic love, we risk neglecting other types of love that are more readily accessible and that may, especially in the longer term, prove more healing and fulfilling.

The seven types of love discussed below are loosely based on classical readings.

1. Eros

Eros is sexual or passionate love, and is the type most akin to our modern construct of romantic love. In Greek myth, it is a form of madness brought about by one of Cupid’s arrows. The arrow breaches us and we ‘fall’ in love, as did Paris with Helen, leading to the Trojan War and the downfall of Troy and much of the assembled Greek army. In modern times, eros has been amalgamated with the broader life force, something akin to Schopenhauer’s will, a fundamentally blind process of striving for survival and reproduction. Eros has also been contrasted with Logos, or Reason, and Cupid painted as a blindfolded child.

2. Philia

The hallmark of philia, or friendship, is shared goodwill. Aristotle believed that a person can bear goodwill to another for one of three reasons: that he is useful; that he is pleasant; and, above all, that he is good, that is, rational and virtuous. Friendships founded on goodness are associated not only with mutual benefit but also with companionship, dependability, and trust.

For Plato, the best kind of friendship is that which lovers have for each other. It is a philia born out of eros, and that in turn feeds back into eros to strengthen and develop it, transforming it from a lust for possession into a shared desire for a higher level of understanding of the self, the other, and the world. In short, philiatransforms eros from a lust for possession into an impulse for philosophy. Real friends seek together to live truer, fuller lives by relating to each other authentically and teaching each other about the limitations of their beliefs and the defects in their character, which are a far greater source of error than mere rational confusion: they are, in effect, each other’s therapist—and in that much it helps to find a friend with some degree of openness, articulacy, and insight, both to change and to be changed.

3. Storge

Storge (‘store-gae’), or familial love, is a kind of philia pertaining to the love between parents and their children. It differs from most philia in that it tends, especially with younger children, to be unilateral or asymmetrical. More broadly, storge is the fondness born out of familiarity or dependency and, unlike erosor philia, does not hang on our personal qualities. People in the early stages of aromantic relationship often expect unconditional storge, but find only the need and dependency of eros, and, if they are lucky, the maturity and fertility ofphilia. Given enough time, eros tends to mutate into storge.

4. Agape

Agape is universal love, such as the love for strangers, nature, or God. Unlikestorge, it does not depend on filiation or familiarity. Also called charity by Christian thinkers, agape can be said to encompass the modern concept ofaltruism, defined as unselfish concern for the welfare of others. Recent studies link altruism with a number of benefits. In the short term, altruism leaves us with a euphoric feeling—the so-called ‘helper’s high’. In the longer term, it is associated with better mental and physical health, as well as longevity. At a social level, altruism serves as a signal of cooperative intentions, and also of resource availability and so of mating or partnering potential. It also opens up a debt account, encouraging beneficiaries to reciprocate with gifts and favours that may be of much greater value to us than those with which we feel able to part. More generally, altruism, or agape, helps to build and maintain the psychological, social, and, indeed, environmental fabric that shields, sustains, and enriches us. Given the increasing anger and division in our society, and the state of our planet, we could all do with quite a bit moreagape.

5. Ludus

Ludus is playful or uncommitted love. It can involve activities such as teasing and dancing, or more overt flirting, seducing, and conjugating. The focus is on fun, and sometimes also on conquest, with no strings attached. Ludus relationships are casual, undemanding, and uncomplicated but, for all that, can be very long-lasting.Ludus works best when both parties are mature and self-sufficient. Problems arise when one party mistakes ludus for eros, whereas ludus is in fact much more compatible with philia.

6. Pragma

Pragma is a kind of practical love founded on reason or duty and one’s longer-term interests. Sexual attraction takes a back seat in favour of personal qualities and compatibilities, shared goals, and making it work. In the days of arranged marriages, pragma must have been very common. Although unfashionable, it remains widespread, most visibly in certain high-profile celebrity and political pairings. Many relationships that start off as eros or ludus end up as various combinations of storge and pragma.Pragma may seem opposed to ludus, but the two can co-exist, with the one providing a counterpoint to the other. In the best of cases, the partners in thepragma relationship agree to turn a blind eye—or even a sympathetic eye, as in the case of Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, or Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson.

7. Philautia

Philautia is self-love, which can be healthy or unhealthy. Unhealthy self-love is akin to hubris. In Ancient Greece, a person could be accused of hubris if he placed himself above the gods, or, like certain modern politicians, above the greater good. Many believed that hubris led to destruction, or nemesis. Today, hubris has come to mean an inflated sense of one’s status, abilities, or accomplishments, especially when accompanied by haughtiness or arrogance. As it disregards truth, hubris promotes injustice, conflict, and enmity.

Healthy self-love is akin to self-esteem, which is our cognitive and, above all, emotional appraisal of our own worth relative to that of others. More than that, it is the matrix through which we think, feel, and act, and reflects and determines our relation to ourselves, to others, and to the world.

Self-esteem and self-confidence do not always go hand in hand. In particular, it is possible to be highly self-confident and yet to have profoundly low self-esteem, as is the case with many performers and celebrities.

People with high self-esteem do not need to prop themselves up with externals such as income, status, or notoriety, or lean on crutches such as alcohol, drugs, or sex. They are able to invest themselves completely in projects and people because they do not fear failure or rejection. Of course they suffer hurt and disappointment, but their setbacks neither damage nor diminish them. Owing to their resilience, they are open to growth experiences and relationships, tolerant of risk, quick to joy and delight, and accepting and forgiving of themselves and others.

In closing, there is, of course, a kind of porosity between the seven types of love, which keep on seeping and passing into one another. For Plato, love aims at beautiful and good things, because the possession of beautiful and good things is called happiness, and happiness is an end-in-itself. Of all beautiful and good things, the best, most beautiful, and most dependable is truth or wisdom, which is why Plato called love not a god but a philosopher:

He whom love touches not walks in darkness.

Every
woman is fabulous and beautiful in her unique way and High Chief (Mrs) Nice
Aleruchi Toubolayefa Alamieyeseigha Nee Amadiwochi (Ugonwanyi 1 of Ipu south Autonomous
Kingdom, Abia State) is one of such. She is a great woman with so much
Godliness and kindness deposited in her. She is the founder and initiator of
Nice Esther Alamieyeseigha Rescue Initiative (NEARI). She is determined to
change lives and she’s stopping at nothing to fulfill this burning desire in
her which she said is her own way of living. She is modeling after Queen Esther
in the Scriptures. In this pleasant moment with IMAOBONG CLETUS, the Ugonwanyi
1 gives an insight of who she really is. Excerpts:

I
don’t ever regret my gender. I love the woman that I am. I’d love to be a woman
over and over again, even in my next world. And the reason is because I want to
be cared for all my life. I love the attention given to me as a woman. It feels
good knowing that there’s a man out there looking out for me, catering for my
well-being. Now, why would I want to leave that to be a man? No way

Wow! I
would love to take you there. I am High Chief Mrs Nice Alamieyeseigha. I am
from Isiokpo in Rivers State and I’m married to the famous Alamieyeseigha family
in southern Ijaw in Bayelsa State. I’m the second child of my parents; I am a
wife and a mother of four. I had my first degree, a Bsc in Computer Science
from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology. I am the founder
and initiator of NEARI which is an NGO built on faith. It’s a non-profit making
organization and our beneficiaries are widows, orphans, teenage mothers,
physically and mentally challenged and the aged. I am a humble person, friendly
and God-fearing woman and my every day and every move is geared towards making
others happy. This is my life and I’m happy living it this way.

What motivated this passion for charity; was it your
upbringing?

I’ve
heard about people that give because they know what it feels like to have
nothing. I am not in that category. Giving, to me, is an innate attribute. I
was born with it. I also grew up seeing my mum as a giver and my dad won’t
stop supporting her own foundation. I said to myself, this could be me and my
husband someday also helping the needy. I picked those traits from them and
it’s been an awesome story so far. So, basically, it’s not about what I’ve
been through in life that gave me the idea to do what I’m doing. Growing up as
a little girl was very eventful for me. From an average family, I had the best
and I was showed extreme love from my parents and above all, we were thought to
worship and adore God. What I enjoyed while growing up was the high morals and
the level of education my parents obliged me. Today, I am fulfilling purpose.
I won’t say what I’m doing is as a result of what I’ve been through in life.
Giving is just my passion. It’s my brainchild, it makes me happy seeing those
kids go to school on my account; some gained scholarship too. We’ve built
houses for widows, gave health and relief materials and lots more. We’ve had
challenges but we’ve sustained it because of the passion involved. Life as we
know is all about charity. But it takes special people to take it to the next
level and that’s what I’m doing. I will say all women should do more of charity
than gossip and hate. It doesn’t matter how small a life you impact.

How do you marry both the NGO and your home responsibilities?

Oh, my
husband? He’s been so supportive. He’s been the one supporting all in the
last five years. And my kids are so blessed with understanding what mummy is
into. My marriage has been founded on love. So, everything is easy for me.
It’s not a perfect marriage but I’ll say patience and understanding have
brought me this far. Considering the nature of my job, stability is not a yes,
yes, for me at home. One moment I can just get a call to leave the country or
the state and it takes a family with so much trust and love to let me do what I
do. From my end, I just try to make do with every little time I have to put the
home front in order and make things work. But he understands that this is what
I’ve got to do. I manage both very well by the grace of God.

You are from Rivers and your husband is an Ijaw man.
One would have expected a chieftaincy title from either of these states. Why
Abia?

What
I’m into has earned me a whole lot on merit. I have an outlet in Ipu South
Autonomous Community. So, the paramount ruler of Ipu South Autonomous Kingdom
thought it wise to honour me after due consultation with his Council of Chiefs.
And based on what I’ve done for the poor in that community, they felt I’ve
been able to attain a height. So, they decided to honour me. You and I know
that the Ibos value their chieftaincy titles a lot. They don’t give it out
anyhow but mine was just something that I earned and his Royal Majesty Eze King
Ukanna conferred the honour on me. Usually, kings are coronated during their
anniversaries. I’m glad to say I’m the first woman in that palace, in the history
of his coronation. I’m amidst twenty nine men. So, it’s an honour.

Being crowned a chief comes with some rituals that may
not be Biblical and you sound like a Christian. Do you think its right getting
involved with such?

God is
the custodian of powers. All by himself, He gave it to me. I was nominated by
an evangelist that owns a church there. It’s just an honour and it had nothing
to do with the regular rituals. I didn’t buy the throne or the title. I had
every opportunity to reject it but my husband encouraged me to go for it. We
had a meeting over it and he found out that the man in question is a man of
God. So I took it.

There was a conjecture that you are doing all this
goodwill because you are considering politics in the future. Is it true?

I don’t
have any political ambition. I’m doing what I’m doing for the love of it. I
don’t have an eye for any political position, I’m not even a politician. People
always assume things based on what they think out. I’m sure they are
speculating that because of the family I’m married into.

What’s your ‘university of marriage’ experience?

I got
married at a tender age when I didn’t even know what marriage was all about.
And at that time, the Alamieyeseigha’s family was in power. So, people assumed
I was getting into the union for fame and name. But no. We were truly in love
and it grew stronger each day till date. We’ve had our ups and downs, but in
all, I look at the person I’m married to, his qualities and his love for me,
that’s my strength and it has kept me going. He’s an honest person and he
sacrifices a lot for the people around him including me,. That alone is my sure
bet on the love. It took a lot of time and hard work to get to this point that
we are today. There are times when it gets so sweet like it was your first date
and there are also worst moments that you wish never came. But in all, we’ve
never stopped believing in each other.

What is your coded relaxation day routine?

It’s
good to look good and beautiful. I go to the gym and then to the SPA. I take
out time to relax and eat good because I also love to cook. My husband proposed
to me because of my food and because I’m a family person. He loves it when I
cook and serve him and I still do that. I’m just an ideal woman. I know how to
keep things in order, including my home. I’m a lesson teacher to my kids, a
wife to my husband and I can do everything including driving my husband when
the driver is not around. I’m not too busy for that. I’m a moving train. All is
fun and relaxation to me.

Your final word to all women

Women
should not judge one another. We are agents of peace. We are supposed to bear
one another’s burden. Let’s change the world and make it a better place to
live in. Let all women imbibe the culture of charity. It shouldn’t just end at
your home front. Take it out to the streets and let people feel your impact
while you are still here. Love and fear God so that we can set a new generation
and standard for the generations ahead of us.

Bayelsa
State Governor, Seriake Dickson, during an interactive session with the
people of the state and media practitioners, including OSA Okhomina of
Leadership, talks about his administration’s relationship with the
workers in the state, the high rate of defection from PDP to APC and the
forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The gubernatorial
poll is now a few weeks away and some members of your party, the PDP,
are jumping the ship. What is your party doing to face up to the
challenge?
Well, let me assure you that this state is a solid PDP
state. In the last general elections we saw that a number of these big
wigs did not support the candidate of the mainstream party, the flag
bearer of the party, yet we won resoundingly and these were elections
that were far more keenly contested and more complicated.

And we
campaigned in every constituency. Opposition to the campaigns was
sponsored by our own party members, party stalwarts but in spite of all
interferences, in spite of all the intimidation, PDP won resoundingly
and you don’t need to look too far. Politics is not magic that you just
conjure victory overnight. No, victory comes as a result of a totality
of a lot of factors. Just because we have lost to APC at the general
elections, some fair weather politicians are running to APC as if they
can make APC win overnight.

Politics is not so. You are talking of
a party of three senators out of three senators, you are talking of a
party that has five out of five Reps members, and even at the worst of
times when PDP in Abuja was contending against PDP Bayelsa with the
support of faithful party members that we enjoy, we won three senatorial
seats, five Reps seats, and won 23 seats out of 24. And one is now at
the tribunal, though we still believe that even in that seat we should
have been declared winner.
Now, you have eight local government
areas, political appointees, commissioners, special assistants, board
chairmen and members, you have almost one hundred and five counselors.
How do you think you will suddenly, in two, three months almost
overnight overthrow that kind of party? And to cap it all you have a
performing governor on ground who knows elections, who is giving
effective, proactive and consistent leadership to the party, because if I
were not in position to give that leadership, let me tell you by now
you would not have PDP in Bayelsa, not with the forces that were arrayed
against this state and against our party. For more than three years I
contended against forces without complaining; stubbornly and rightly
resisting them in the interest of this state, in the interest of the
Ijaw nation.
Some members of the opposition party have insisted
that your claim over the funding of the flyover bridge built by your
administration is filled with lies. Why did your administration fund
some of these projects but fail to the flyover officially commission
them for the benefit of the people?
All these projects in Bayelsa I
wish to state unequivocally were conceived, designed, funded and
completed by the government of Bayelsa. There is not one that was not
funded by the government of Bayelsa hundred percent and I believe
everybody knows.
I think what happened is this, everybody wants to
be governor, every character, once you are 35 years. develop a
governorship ambition Any position you hold you don’t use it to help the
people, you don’t use it to work for the state, you use it to fight for
governorship. That is what is happening in Bayelsa. So, a lot of people
who were not in Bayelsa have had the inordinate ambition but were
intimidated by the performance of my government and they say Ah… with
the way this man is going if we don’t throw stories around and take away
the credit that should go to him and his government we won’t be able to
contest an election again.
So, they started concocting stories to
deceive the poor unsuspecting people of Bayelsa that these are federal
projects. There is no federal project that they will do and give you the
money, there must be a contract, it must be in the budget and they will
pass the budget, they will award it, and they will come and supervise
and finish it.
Some 200 graduands claimed to have been abandoned
by the state government in the country where they went for overseas
training. Is it true? We will also like to know why they are not
absorbed into the Civil Service as promised?
Well, it was this
government that sent young people to Songhai but you see a lot of things
have happened with the economy. Not many people in Bayelsa probably
know that we are facing a very strong financial situation. People think
there is so much money in government such that when you come to the
Government House you just come with a truck and begin to pack money and
they say often that the governor “no dey release money”. But they don’t
ask often whether there is money.
Our programme of reintegrating
them was affected but don’t worry a number of the agricultural
programmes that we thought they would be deployed into are getting
completed. The poultry, piggery, the cassava farm, the rice mills, a
number of them are getting completed. It was funding constraints that we
had; the speed we were going at was such that if the revenue had not
come down by now we would have completed all these projects and we would
have been thinking of other ones. But we were slowed down and we are
working on it.
You talked about civil service; again you don’t
just recruit people into the civil service, there are areas of need.
Already, we have an over- bloated civil service. Anybody who is coming
to promise you recruitment into the civil service is not qualify to be
governor; tell the person so. But there are areas of need that we have
identified for for employment opportunities .
How is your
relationship with the State Workforce and why is it that your
administration was not affected by the delay in workers’ salaries? And
why was Bayelsa not included in the recent bailout offered by the
Federal Government?
You spoke about payment of salaries and
everyone knows that in Bayelsa State we don’t owe salaries, we are not
in arrears of salaries. We are also not in arrears in paying retirees.
Only yesterday, I met with the pensioners and they expressed their
appreciation for the efforts of the government. The only challenge we
have is about gratuity which has lingered for about 10 years. But in
terms of regular payment of salaries, Bayelsa is not owing and we are
also not owing pensioners.
What are the measures we have put in
place? It’s a combination of prudence and the selfless dedication of my
team. For us, the people’s interest comes first and that’s why even in
my office for three months running, there has been no running cost paid.
We don’t also have overhead paid for three months now, all because we
want to ensure that salaries of workers are paid.
