BAYELSA 2016: 'DICKSON'S OPPONENTS OUT TO SERVE THEIR POCKETS'

BAYELSA 2016: 'DICKSON'S OPPONENTS OUT TO SERVE THEIR POCKETS'

Ahead of the 2016 governorship election in Bayelsa State, the people have been called upon to be wary of those, who are vying for the top position to serve their pockets rather than the people. A list of present and former top public officers are reportedly in the race to contest against the incumbent, Hon. Seriake Dickson.

But in a statement yesterday, former President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Famous Daunemuagha, was categorical that most of the names said to be in the race were only being "opportunistic and self-serving" if they ever run for the governorship in the state next year. "This is the challenge to the people who must be wary of their deceit and say never again", he stated.
Daunemugha, who observed that, the realities on the ground favoured the incumbent, argued that, the antecedents of those reportedly in the race were "either too negative or abysmally uninspiring" to now elicit the interest of the people.
"What comes to mind straight away is the past of these characters in government and of course their deficits of corruption and bad leadership. Even among those who are currently serving, what have they contributed to make life better for their kith and kin back home in Bayelsa? Everyone of them has been in one top position or the other at different times but only used their respective positions to enrich themselves and that is the critical issue they have with the good people of Bayelsa State. There's a growing political awareness among the people and they will certainly ask questions".
The statement further stated that most of the aspirants in circulation were inclined to run because they're broke and have become liabilities to themselves and the society, adding that "if you check very well, the only reason why they want power is to enable them enhance their economic wellbeing. The aim is not to serve the people but to serve their pockets. Bayelsans are not fools. We know their antecedents and when the time comes, we will disgrace them at the polls".
